26 April 2017: From the Secretary

As stated at the AGM, a number of items were to be taken away and discussed further by the management committee.  The results of these discussions are as follows:

a.      Is the quoit in or out if it is under the clay and you can’t see the quoit, though suspect that it has hit the wood?  The quoit should be classed as in.

b.      There have been instances where the captain has injured themselves playing the league game and has had to forfeit the Captains game as a result.  What should be done in these circumstances?  The current Captains game rule stay as is.  It is at the discretion of the captains as to whether or not they play their game first.  It is suggested that they do if they are already carrying some form of physical weakness that may be impacted by play.

c.      It was mentioned that it is possible for a quoit to be more than 18” away from the pin.  If a quoit is in this position, should it be classed as in or out?  It is highly unlikely that this will occur  based on the dimensions of a standard pit / the diameter of the pin / a correctly sized quoit.  As per Rule #14 all measurements should be carried out using straight legged compasses, not any other form of measuring device.  The current rules will remain as is.  If the quoit is in the pit, and not visibly touching the wood, then it should be classed as in.

d.      Who should umpire a game?  Standard practice is for the ‘home’ team to umpire (as this means that both teams carry out umpiring duties across the course of the season), however, as per Rule #6, one person from each team is entitled to umpire a game at the same time, as joint umpires.
